I’ve made a list of WordPress Plug-ins that I use. The ones with a * next to them are ones I really love.

Admin Theme Preview – Allows admins to preview installed themes.

* Akismet – Akismet checks your comments against the Akismet web service to see if they look like spam or not. You need a WordPress.com API key to use it. You can review the spam it catches under “Comments.”

* Bad Behavior – Deny automated spambots access to your PHP-based Web site.

* Batch Categories – Easily manage the mass categorization of posts that match various criteria.

* Bookmark Me – Lists links to common social bookmarking sites.

Category Replacement Widget – Replacement to allow for greater customization of the category widget.

* Comment Email Responder – Emails commenter when an admin replies to the comment, if commenter is not subscribed to email updates via Subscribe-to-Comments.

DiggClick – displays a “digg it” button at the beginning of your posts, with a lot of configuration options.

* Digital Fingerprint – This plugin enables you to easily and quickly search the web for potential cases of plagiarism and content theft. It works by adding a customizable “digital fingerprint” to your RSS feed in posts that you select (or all posts if you wish). You can then easily monitor the blogosphere for your digital fingerprint in the hopes of finding potential content thieves and scrapers abusing your content.

* DoFollow – Disable the “nofollow” tagging for comments. Timeout using comment age

Drop-down Archive Widget – Show a drop-down archive list.

Earthtones – Administration theme for Word Press that replaces the default blue color scheme with muted brown and green earth tones.

Full Text Feed – Prevents WordPress 2.1+ from adding a more link to your website’s feed.

Google Search widget – Adds a sidebar widget to let users search your site with Google.

Google Sitemaps – This generator will create a Google compliant sitemap of your WordPress blog.

* ImageManager – PHP ImageManager + Editor for WordPress. It will not be enabled until you have configured it via the Options >> ImageManager menu. *** Requires WordPress 2.0 ***

* LMB^Box Comment Quicktags – Inserts a quicktag toolbar in the blog comment form.

* MyAvatars – This plugin allows you to add MyBlogLog.com avatars to WordPress comments.

MyBlogLog Widget – Adds a sidebar widget for MyBlogLog

* Peter’s Custom Anti-Spam – Stop a lot of spambots from polluting your site by making visitors identify a random word displayed as an image before commenting. You can customize the pool of words to display.

* Sidebar Page (and other) Sections – Places an admin menu under the Presentation menu. Generates any number of sidebar widgets that can contain links to pages + Text Box Replacements.

* Sidebar Widgets – Adds “Sidebar Widgets” panel under Presentation menu

* SocialList – Track your blog posts on social bookmarking sites del.icio.us and digg

* StatTraq – This plugin will allow you to keep track of every hit on your public WordPress site (note that it does not track admin activity

* Stick Post – this plugin allow to stick a post to the top of the homepage

* Subscribe To Comments – Allows readers to recieve notifications of new comments that are posted to an entry.

TD Word Count – Word count stats

Trackback List – Creates a simple list of trackbacks to the post. If there are none, there will be no output.

* Ultimate Tag Warrior – Ultimate Tag Warrior is a tagging plugin, that’s heavy on tag visualisation.

Trackback Validator – Eliminates spam trackbacks with surprising accuracy (see website for details).

Translate – Adds a sidebar widget to display languages into which you can translate your blog.

* Update Manager – Displays update notifications for WordPress plugins.

WhoLinked – Shows the sites linking to you in real time.

Widget Collapser – Collapses Sidebar

WordPress Database Backup – On-demand backup of your WordPress database.

Word Statistics – Computes Gunning-Fog, Flesch, and Flesch-Kincaid readability indexes about posts as they are edited for the purpose of improving their readability.

WP-AddQuicktag – This plugin makes it easy to add extra quicktags via the options menu in your WordPress administration.

WP-Cats – Ajax-y category controls added to the Manage Posts screen

* WP-OnlineCounter – Online and Total visitors counter.

* WP-OnlineCounter widget – Allows WP-OnlineCounter to be used as a widget.

WP Grins – A Clickable Smilies hack for WordPress

WP Super Edit – Add more buttons and controls to the WordPress TinyMCE WYSIWYG Editor

***UPDATED 4/24/2007*** – I found a better tag plug-in… Ultimate Tag Warrior and added that one and removed Bunny’s Technorati Tags.

    Fab: I LOVE it! It works wonderfully! I highly recommend it! When you use this then people know that you have responded to their comments. You’ll end up with a lot of response comments from yourself because you’ll have to respond to each comment individually instead of bulk responses in one comment :)

    Manilla Mom: Yes, It’s a great thing to do. It also promotes backlinks which is what Google looks for.
