17 Nov 2007 Ocular Migraine
 |  Category: Health

Right now I’m having an ocular migraine. I get them every so often. Thank goodness I’ve never gotten one while driving. I’d have to pull over and sit for a half hour to 45 minutes and wait for it to pass. It’s like looking through a kaleidescope. I see flashing, jagged, rainbow like colors that start in the center of my vision and slowly work their way out to the outer part of my vision. They are there whether my eyes are opened or closed. Then I get a headache.

It doesn’t incapacitate me. It’s just very, very annoying. Anyone else ever get these?

Yeah, I get ocular migraines from time to time. I’ve also never gotten one while driving. If I could just have the ocular part, without the headache part I wouldn’t mind so much.

My husband gets those. He has to take Ibuprofen and then go lay down in our bedroom in the dark until it passes. Fortunately he doesn’t get them very often. I hope yours passed quickly.

Elizabeth: Mine don’t get quite that bad. Mine was gone within 10 minutes of posting this.

  5. My daughter gets them, she thinks it’s reflective of what she eats. Glad your feeling better. I don’t think there’s much you can do for them.

Dorothy: Thank you. From what I read, there’s nothing that can be done about them.

  7. Oh yeah, they are terrible. I used to get them as a kid and fortunately for me they have gone away with age. The best for me was sitting in a dark room with my eyes closed. If I didn’t my vision would get spots and I would begin to feel really bad. Breathing exercises tended to help calm me.

Jerad: I’m glad yours have gone away. I get them a couple times a year. They started within the last 5 years.
