29 Feb 2008 Old Diary
 |  Category: family  | 4 Comments

When I was helping my mom to pack up for her move I came across an old diary she had there. It was her uncle’s diary from 1874. His name was Daniel Sampson Lake. He was lost at sea at the age of 25.

I started a new blog on WordPress.com and I will be posting each day’s entry from the diary. The blog address for this blog is My Ancestors. Stop by if you’d like to read about the daily life of a 20 year old in 1874.

27 Feb 2008 Collage

I’ve been busy all morning making a collage of pictures of our kids and grandkids (mostly the grandkids). I had a beautiful frame but I didn’t like what was inside the frame. I covered that with some paper and went to work and printed 4 different collages that I put together on the computer in a program called Corel Snapfire Plus. I then laid out the 4 sheets and taped them to the paper I wrapped the inside of the frame with.

I think it turned out pretty darn good. What do you think?

Navy Chief Special Warfare Operator (SEAL) Michael E. Koch
Navy Chief Special Warfare Operator (SEAL) Michael E. Koch
29 years old from State College, Pennsylvania
East Coast-based SEAL team
February 4, 2008

“There are only approximately 2,500 SEALs in the Navy and they really are a brotherhood,” said Naval Special Warfare spokesman Lt. David Luckett. “This is another unfortunate reminder of the risks and sacrifices these amazing warriors and their families make on a daily basis.”

Koch leaves behind his parents and a fiancee. He enlisted in July 1998 and entered SEAL training in January 1999, according to The Virginian-Pilot of Norfolk. He received the Bronze Star, Joint Service Commendation Medal and three Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals.

Navy SEAL Michael E. Koch died Feb. 4 after being wounded by small-arms fire during combat operations in Iraq alongside fellow SEAL Nathan Hardy, who was profiled last week.

These brave men and women sacrifice so much in their lives so that others may enjoy the freedoms we get to enjoy everyday. For that, I am proud to call them Hero.
We Should Not Only Mourn These Men And Women Who Died, We Should Also Thank God That Such People Lived

The gray hair went goodbye today!

This is me before.

before

I used Nice & Easy Perfect 10. You mix it up, put it on and 10 minutes later rinse it out. It doesn’t really smell all that bad either. It has a fruity/flowery kind of smell.

This is me… after. It’s definitely lighter and in 6 to 8 weeks when I do it again, with the same color, it will be lighter yet.

Earlier today I went to the local coin/collectibles shop with a bag full of old coins. I went there to sell them and walked away with $219! These were coins that my parents collected and gave to me. I didn’t really feel that safe having them in the place I live in and I figured I’d take them to a collector and try to get a decent price for them.

My mom is moving in with my niece on Thursday and I went over to help get things packed up and walked out with a couple boxes of things mom didn’t want or won’t have room for in her new place.

25 Feb 2008 Eek!!!

grey_hairNormally when I brush my hair I don’t get real up-close to the mirror.. but I just got up close because something looked a little strange. Now I wish I hadn’t gotten so close to the mirror…. I just found some GRAY HAIRS!!!! I thought since my mom and dad didn’t start getting gray until they were in their 70′s that I’d be as lucky. Nope… time to go and get something to take care of that.

I have “dirty” blond hair. Now should I go blonder or more on the brunette side? Maybe red? Sigh…. getting old really sucks!!

25 Feb 2008 It’s Working
 |  Category: Health  | Comments off

PTI went to my 4th PT session today and it is working. I have a greater range of motion with my shoulder than I did a week ago. I was actually able to use the hair dryer to dry my hair this morning! I can actually see my armpit when I put my deodorant on in the morning.

PT starts off with the application of heat then I go into the exercises, including the hand bike, then stretching by the therapist (that hurts!) then the application of ice. It all takes roughly an hour. I usually end up having to take a pain pill once I get home. The stretching is the worst part. I still have a hard time getting my left arm to go behind my back but it’s slowly getting better.

I still have 2 more sessions this week on Wednesday and Friday.

24 Feb 2008 I Can’t be Old Enough

TheoMy oldest is 34 today. I can’t be old enough to be his mom… right? 34 years ago my 1st born came into this world by c-section after taking a peek at the world and deciding he didn’t want to come out. He was 8 lbs 3 oz and 20 3/4 inches long. See the hair? That’s why I had a lot of heartburn.

Theo

Theo was a good baby even though he didn’t sleep all night until he was 2 years old. He started walking at 10 months old. He did a lot of things early for his age. As he grew older he played all kinds of sports.. soccer, baseball, football & hockey. He was considered a jock. He broke his leg in his teens and that basically ended his sports.

He grew up, got married.. twice.. and became a father almost a year ago. I’m very proud to call this man my son. *even though he can’t be 34! I’m only 29! :) *

Theo & Trey

Happy Birthday Theo!
