This time I’m not talking about gas prices. I just came home from Shoprite and I knew I was in trouble the minute I started shopping. I was in the produce department and I overheard 2 clerks talking to a 3rd clerk. They were just handed new prices to put up. I heard one say “$1.00? Things are really getting expensive. It used to be we’d raise prices by pennies now it’s by dollars.” I continued on with my shopping and I picked up 22 items. I roughly estimated $50 to $60 for them. Boy did I underestimate! Those 22 items came to $86.82 with my coupons and using my Price Plus card.
The prices of everything is getting totally out of control. There is only 2 of us. I can’t imagine how a large family can afford to buy food. I remember when we were 1st married (1972) I would spend $15 to $20 a week on food. I took hubby with me once and we spent $50. I told him he wasn’t allowed to go shopping with me anymore! Between fuel and food prices we need to get another job!

It’s crazy isn’t it? A gallon of milk here is $3.99, and a box of cereal is about $5.00. so breakfast is basically $9.00.
It’s crazy.
I always dig through coupons, I buy the buy 1 get 1′s, look for in store coupons and their sales flyers for more in store savings.
It’s getting out of control.

Some of what I got today were 2 fers with my price plus card. I had to get
calcium (9.99) and a “green” 3 way light bulb (9.99). It’s ridiculous …
you’re supposed to go “green” and be “healthy” but buying that stuff will
cause you to go broke! It’s just unreal!
It’s much the same over here in UK.. I can’t believe what we are paying for basics like bread, breakfast cereals, pasta etc – just ordinary stuff. I know the price of wheat has rocketed worldwide but it is hard to manage.
Everyday on the news is another story of this going up and that going up… pity the wages don’t go up to match..

It wouldn’t be so bad if the wages went up too… but they don’t.
Boy, do we know what you mean. With gas going up through the roof, the food prices certainly are following suit. This is disgusting but I remember bread that cost 10 cents, hamburger that was 25 cents a pound and gas that cost 19 cents a gallon. This is not my idea of a great thing. And it ain’t gonna get any better from what I see. BAH!!
Someday soon, it’s going to feel like we are all in the poor house no matter how much income we have. I saw a news report a couple of days ago that said many middle income people are now visiting the food banks because all their bills are taking the money. They have nothing left to feed the kids. This is insane.

I saw that report too. It’s just unbelievable how this country is going down the tubes.
I know exactly what you are talking about… used to be I could get in and out of WalMart for under $30… that is when I was a bachelor. Enter my wife… that doubled… Now with my son in the house as well, we can never get out for less than $125. Each week it seems that creeps up a few bucks for the same stuff…

My daughter has 3 kids and she spends about $200 each week for food. And that’s in Texas were things are supposed to be cheaper than here.
I can top that. The other day I was in Wal-Mart and I had a packge of CD for my computer in my hand. I was holding them and making sure they were the right ones that I needed for my new laptop. While I was standing there holding them the clerk actually increased the price of them by $ .78. I told him I thought that Wal-Mart advertised they were always lowering their prices and he just shrugged his shoulders and went on about his price increasing.
