24 Dec 2010 Have a happy holiday

Merry Christmas to all my readers and I hope Santa is good to each and every one of you.

I had an interesting Christmas eve day. I had to go to the laundromat because the washer and dryer I have don’t work very well. It’s a stackable unit and it’s old. It takes forever to dry a very small load of clothes and you can’t wash a load while another load is drying. Then I had to go to WaWa to get a couple thing and some cash to give to the grandkids.

I’ve also been suffering with a bad cold for almost a week now and I had to go to CVS to get some cold medicine. While I was waiting to check out the guy in front of me was buying a bunch of swisher sweets cigarillos that he said he was giving as gifts to his friends. I thought that was a little strange but I guess his guy friends would love them.

Now I’m back home and just messing around on the computer for a little bit before I have to turn it back over to Andi. I hope Santa got my letter and brings me a new computer for Christmas.

22 Dec 2010 Wednesday Hero – Merry Christmas

I sat here trying to think how to start this post. What did I want it to say? How long did I want it to be? I wasn’t sure how to begin. I turned on some Christmas music to help get me in the right frame of mind to write a Christmas Wednesday Hero post, but it wasn’t really helping. I mean, how do you properly thank a group of people who have given up everything in their lives to serve you and protect people all over the world with just a single post on a silly blog? Many of these Men and Women haven’t seen their friends and families in months and many won’t be seeing them for many more months. How do you thank them? They are away from home during the time of year when everyone should be together. How do you thank them for that? Some of them will never see their home or loved ones again because they laid down their life for a complete stranger. How do you thank them for that? I guess the better question would be are we able to thank them enough?

To all those who have completed their service, the ones who are serving, the ones who have payed the ultimate sacrifice and those who may have never served but help those who have and are, Thank You and Merry Christmas.

These brave men and women sacrifice so much in their lives so that others may enjoy the freedoms we get to enjoy everyday. For that, I am proud to call them Hero.

21 Dec 2010 Such a mix..
 |  Category: life  | Tags: , , , , , , , ,  | Comments off

We have such a mix of furniture right now. We have a micro-suede couch and a chair that looks like cabin furniture. The chair has a plaid pattern on the the cushions and wooden frame and arms. It’s part of a set that hubby bought one time. I never really liked it too much. The sofa and love seat are long gone but I still have the chair.

One thing in the chairs favor is that it is comfortable. I just wish there had been a foot stool to go along with it.

We have a beat up coffee table that was given to us and a microwave stand that we use to put the TV on. For end tables we have a plastic 3 drawer chest that we have covered up with a curtain and 2 plastic storage bins (stacked) covered with a large shawl.

It’s a real eclectic mix but it looks ok. This stuff will work until we can afford to get our stuff out of storage and or buy new living room furniture.

18 Dec 2010 Hmmm… I don’t know

My doctor keeps wanting me to get a colonoscopy but I just can’t bring myself to get one done. I’m very uncomfortable with the whole process from using the colon cleanser to the procedure itself.

I don’t have any problems and there is no history of anyone in my family ever having colon cancer so I just want to put myself through the stress and worry of having that procedure done. I do think that people who have a family history of colon cancer should get the screening but it’s just not for me.

I have the same problem with Mammograms too. I have had that done a couple times but it really hurts. My breasts hurt for days afterwards. Both times everything has been fine and there is no history of breast cancer in my family either.

18 Dec 2010 Show me the money

I wish someone would show me some money or rather give me some. Better yet, I wish someone would hire me. I’ve been out of work since the end of 2008.. that’s just about 2 years now. I was working in a temp job for a Halloween store for 3 years and they decided to not hire temp workers anymore. My unemployment ran out not too long after it started because of the way unemployment figures out your eligibility.

In 2001 I was injured at a job at a nursing home. I was a unit clerk/secretary and had to keep a gentleman from falling when he tried to stand up from his wheelchair. I ended up with a ruptured disc in my back and after 2 surgeries I was told by the doctor and my worker’s comp lawyer that I wouldn’t qualify for ssdi because I was only partially disabled and still able to work.

I would really love to work but the economy is still so bad that I just can’t find a job. I could get a job if I wanted to be a mechanic, teacher, or nurse, etc but I’m just not qualified for any of those jobs.

15 Dec 2010 Olden days
 |  Category: life  | Tags: , , ,  | Comments off

I was sitting here thinking about the olden days when my grand parents and great grandparents were alive. Looking at pictures most of the women were very thin, at least the younger ones were. Pictures of the older women showed some heavier women.

I know corsets were in big fashion back then. I would have to guess they even made plus size corsets too. I don’t know if my grandmother ever wore one but I don’t see where she would have need one because she was stick thin until the day she passed on.

I just love the clothes they wore back then. They were plain but very, very pretty and very sturdily made. I wish I could find clothes like that now.

A Green Country military mom is especially proud of her soldier son. He’s on his second tour of duty in Afghanistan, and now he’s been honored for his bravery under fire with a Silver Star.

It’s not his first medal.

For a mother with a son in a war zone, Lisa Wheat is pretty cool, calm and collected.

“I’m comfortable because I know the training he’s had. He’s had excellent training. And I just have all of the confidence in the world in him,” Lisa Wheat said.
