It’s getting to be that time of year

Fall is almost upon us and it’s about that time to start getting halloween costumes for the kids. Andi already has a couple things together for the boys, they want to be the Blues Brothers. She’s still looking for something for Benton and Tayler doesn’t know if she wants to dress up or not.. she’s 14 now.

I miss my old job setting up utilities for the Halloween stores. Halloween has been one of my favorite holidays…. next to Christmas (my all time favorite holiday). I miss all of the people I worked with and the way the office would get decorated with things the company sells.

This summer has been so hot, dry (rain-wise) and humid. It’s been horrible. I can’t wait for the cool, crisp fall weather (we’ve had a little taste of that the past few days). Today the heat and humidity came back and the A/C came back on. I haven’t seen such weather extremes in a long time. This past winter was cold and snowy.

I hope mother nature gets her act together and gets the weather back into normal mode again.

Not so great customer service

This morning Andi and I went to Wally World so she could get more paint to paint some more rooms in the house. We went to the paint department and no employee was around to help us. We went off to get some other things we needed and came back. Still no one working in the paint department. I looked up into the security cameras and said “is anyone working here?” hoping someone would be watching who could read lips. We waited and still no one showed up. We went off to get some other things and came back one last time. Finally someone decided to help us.

I was really beginning to think we would have to go to another store to get paint. Now Andi is busy painting away and I’m keeping an eye on Benton. He looks so cute toddling around now. He’s gotten really good at the walking thing. He has his little arms waving around and he’s babbling up a storm while walking all over the living room and kitchen.

New Job

I wish I were talking about me but I’m not. Drew, Andi’s fiancée, got a new job. He’s been at it for a couple weeks now and he seems to like it. He’s working on industrial products like big trucks and construction equipment and has mostly been doing welding fabricating.

He had to fabricate this big part for a front end loader and had to go to a place that sells steel. He fell in love with that place. It’s also hubby’s favorite place to go.

It’s a long hike for him to drive to work (about an hour or so each way). But he’s a young guy and can handle all that driving. He’s also getting a good paycheck too (much better than his old job). He works long hours too and gets plenty of overtime.

Andi is finally in the Army reserves now. She went up to Fort Dix the other day and signed all the paperwork so she’ll start getting a paycheck soon.

Me, on the other hand, hasn’t found a job yet. I put in resume after resume and don’t hear a thing from anyone. It’s very disheartening.

More changes

Well, that didn’t last long. My sister-in-law came over and told us she’s putting the house up for sale. We can stay here until it’s sold but I was hoping things would turn out differently. Right now it’s so up in the air that I don’t know what we are doing. I really wasn’t planning a move again so soon.

On another note; I put in my resume with a temp agency today. I’m willing to try just about anything to get a job. I hope I find one soon. This not working thing is getting old real quick.

The other 3 grandkids are here this weekend and the house is quite noisy. We just had another delicious dinner cooked by Drew. He barbecued some nice thick pork chops. They turned out so good. They were so tender and juicy.

Alcoholic

We know someone who is an alcoholic. Years ago he was really bad. He was married, had a son and his wife was pregnant with their daughter. When this guy was sober he was a really great, happy guy. When he would drink he changed into a mean, nasty, raving lunatic of a man. Back then there weren’t a lot of detox centers to choose from but one was found for him and he went in for a few months.

That place did a good job. When he got out he was back to his happy self until several years later when his wife died of cancer. He went back to drinking and the “monster” returned for a couple years. It played hell on his family. Then one day a few months ago he decided to stop hurting himself and his family and went sober again all by himself. He’s doing good so far without the help of a detox center too.

I sure hope nothing else comes along to send him back to the alcohol because we sure like this sober guy much better than the “monster”.

She’s in her new home

My mom had to go into the hospital a couple days ago. She was having belly pains and other problems. She was diagnosed with diverticulitis. Today she was released from the hospital into the nursing home we were trying to get her into.

When she was brought into her room on the stretcher she had a big smile on her face. She was so happy to be there. That makes me feel good that she likes this place because her first reaction was absolutely no to a nursing home when it was first brought up. She had been on a tour of the place a couple months ago and really liked it.

I don’t feel bad about putting her there. Now she is just a few minutes from most of her family instead of almost an hour away.

He’s his daddy’s boy

Drew likes to play the guitar and Benton likes to try to play it too. Drew is making a little guitar for Benton. Over the winter we went up to the Berlin Farmer’s market. They have a tobacco store inside that sells cigars and stuff. They also sell the empty cigar boxes. Drew searched through all of the boxes until he found the perfect one. There were Dutch Masters, Davidoff cigars and a lot of other different kinds.

He has to get the strings for it and the little knobs to tighten them and finish up the neck of the guitar. Benton is going to love it when it’s finished. I have a video of Benton playing the guitar up on Facebook.

Just waiting

A nurse from Medicaid finally came to see my mom last week and said she would be approved for a nursing home. We are waiting for a bed to open up now. But since she was evaluated by the nursing home a couple months ago she’s gone down hill a bit. She’s probably going to have to be re-evaluated.

Mom has had trouble breathing for awhile now. The medical report says she has COPD and hopefully she won’t have to have a respironics oxygen concentrator. I hope it doesn’t get that bad.

Her sister died a couple weeks ago and I think that has had a negative effect on her. She keeps saying she’s going to be the next to go. I just hope she’s not willing that to happen. Her sister was 9 years older than her and my mom was the baby of the family. All of her siblings have passed on.

Feedback wanted

I am seriously considering making jewelry. I ordered a catalog from a company that sells beads and other things for making jewelry. I also checked out EBay and found some great deals on beads, findings, wires and tools. What I want to know if there any other jewelry makers out there that read this blog and can tell me how hard it is to do and if you make any money doing that.

I really want to do something other than sit on the computer playing games all day and I want to do something I can make some money doing.

Please leave a comment because this is something I really want to try to do. Thanks!!

I can’t do it

My doctor is always after me to get a colonoscopy done and I just can’t do it. I really don’t like anyone messing around that area. Besides the fact that I would have to do a colon cleanse before hand.. not one of my favorite things to do.

I do realize that having a colonoscopy done is something that’s important to have done but I just can’t bring myself to do it. Both my parents had it done several times but I feel like a panic attack is coming on just thinking about having it done. I’ve never had any problems with that area and just want to leave well enough alone for now.

I also hate having a mammogram done too. Those things HURT! But I had no problems having 3 c-sections, a hysterectomy, a discectomy and a spinal fusion done. I know.. it makes no sense.. but that’s me. I don’t make sense a lot of times.
