We have a blizzard warning for later today through Saturday night and people are going crazy buying up everything in sight. We could have up to 2 feet of snow! Shoprite is jam packed and there isn’t a parking space to be found. Their POS systems must be going at a record rate.

I needed to go there today but decided to stay away. I’m not going into that store and fight all those people for 1 thing. JoJo is getting low on her food but I think there just might be enough to last through the weekend. If not I do have a can or two of canned food I can give her. I’m glad I got food on Tuesday!

I woke up Friday morning to no internet. I have cable internet and was unable to pay my cable bill. I had no idea when I was going to be able to pay it either.

Last night my good friend Kat told me that she was getting people together to donate to help me get back online and then this morning she told me that the guys at PayU2Blog took up a donation at the office. I got that money this morning and was able to get my cable turned back on. I just love all my friends!!

I was able to get that paid, my gas bill paid and go grocery shopping with money still left over.

I have never seen a company who cares about their employees as much as PU2Blog… not like another company I worked for who cares more about partying and throwing away money.

I must have been really stressed these past 6 days because now I just want to crawl into bed and sleep. I feel so much more at peace. I’m not checking to see if I have gas every hour or so and I’ve waded through tons of emails and requests on FaceBook.

I wasn’t going to be able to have the grandkids over this weekend because I wouldn’t have had to food or money to feed them. Now I can have them come over. I feel like most of a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. There is still some there but I think I can deal with that… for now.

Christmas dinner this year will most likely be spaghetti. Between buying gifts for the kids and grandkids funds are very tight. Hubby also needed a part for his boat engine that he had to rebuild and that is his Christmas present. Since I won’t have a job after next Friday we have to learn to scrimp all over again… cutting down on the extras and a few necessities. We certainly won’t be going out and spending money on silk ties.. even if there was a need for them.

I can’t cut out the kitty litter and kitty food… JoJo needs to survive too! I have to cut down on the games I buy, but I’ve already purchased so many from Big Fish Games that I’ll have plenty to hold me over. I just hope no really good ones come out to taunt me.

But there are other resouces.. years ago hubby was going to rebuild a 1972 Chevy Pickup. That project never got too far off the ground and he has a lot of parts stored away and they are still in their original boxes. I’m thinking EBay! I’m also going to go through boxes I have in the closets here and find things that are worth selling. I have a bunch of old post cards that were my grandmom’s and a bunch of other things.

I’ve looked in the paper for jobs and there just isn’t much to be found. Hubby told me about a guy who put an ad in for a receptionist and he expected to get 3 or 4 applications… he got over 270! I don’t hold much hope in finding a job any time soon.

This time I’m not talking about gas prices. I just came home from Shoprite and I knew I was in trouble the minute I started shopping. I was in the produce department and I overheard 2 clerks talking to a 3rd clerk. They were just handed new prices to put up. I heard one say “$1.00? Things are really getting expensive. It used to be we’d raise prices by pennies now it’s by dollars.” I continued on with my shopping and I picked up 22 items. I roughly estimated $50 to $60 for them. Boy did I underestimate! Those 22 items came to $86.82 with my coupons and using my Price Plus card.

The prices of everything is getting totally out of control. There is only 2 of us. I can’t imagine how a large family can afford to buy food. I remember when we were 1st married (1972) I would spend $15 to $20 a week on food. I took hubby with me once and we spent $50. I told him he wasn’t allowed to go shopping with me anymore! Between fuel and food prices we need to get another job!

Andi and the kids went to visit her brother, Theo, on Monday. While they were there they went to the Dallas World Aquarium. She said they had a great time. She sent me some pictures and this one is a picture of an octopus.

Dallas World Aquarium - Octopus

Speaking of aquariums; we used to have a much smaller aquarium when the kids were little. I had a hard time with keeping it clean, remembering to feed the fish and other things. If we had one of those new fish feeders we probably would have done much better with our aquarium. Fish feeders will feed your fish for you while you’re away or even if you forget, like I do. If you get a fish feeder you should also get a timer for the light too. I didn’t know that fish are only aware of the food if they are cued by lighting. So if you don’t turn on the tank light they don’t know to eat. (I guess I should have had a timer for the light on our tank.. oops)

You can set the timer on these feeders to dispense the fish food at certain intervals. You can also get fish food blocks that you put in the tank. It dissolves and starts releasing food pellets. In about 4 days it starts releasing tubifex worms. These fish feeders come in all kinds of shapes and sizes. You can get manual ones too that will keep leafy foods from just floating around in the tank and just ending up in the filter uneaten.

There are all kinds of products you can get to keep your aquarium running up to speed and looking great.
