I love NASCAR. I love to go to races although I haven’t been to a race in several years. My first race ever was in Daytona, Florida. That was in 1979. The track was crowded but not as crowded as it gets today and so much has changed around the track too. There used to be a lot of open spaces now they’re filled with condo hotels and a lot of shopping malls.

When we went to that race and left NJ we left it with ice on the roads. It was beautiful in Florida when we arrived. While at the race we heard a couple of guys talking about how NJ was supposed to get slammed with a blizzard. I called my mom and she said that the weather was just calling for an inch or two so we thought nothing of it. After the race we left and headed north to come home. We got to Jacksonville, Florida and there was ice on the bridges. Further north it turned to snow. We hit snow in Georgia. We couldn’t find a motel with any vacancies so we ended up sleeping in Hubby’s El Camino in a parking lot of a motel. The next morning I called mom again and she told me there was 7 inches on the ground and it was still coming down. That was the last time I heard from her until we got home.

We made it to Virginia the next night and there was a couple feet of snow on the ground by that time but we got lucky and got a motel room that night. We made it back into NJ the next day and were greeted with 3 feet of snow. All I had on my feet were a pair of clogs.

My mom had been babysitting our 3 kids and the electric went out in our house. A relative that lived a block over still had electric and came and got my mom and kids and took them to their house. The electric had come back on by the time we got home. That was one trip I’ll remember for the rest of my life. It has never, except for this time, taken us 3 days to get home from Florida.

It’s just after noon and the temperature is only 19 degrees and it feels like 8 degrees with the wind chill. My sliding door (which is right next to my desk) is not very well insulated and I can feel the cold even when the heat is running.

Every bone in my body is aching. I had to put on my magnetic bracelet because my wrist and hand are hurting bad. My shoulder is hurting too, but not enough for a shoulder pain pump, my knees hurt, my back hurts. Suffice it to say I hurt all over!

Tonight it’s supposed to go down to just 4 degrees. The news is saying it’s the coldest it’s been here in 5 years. I believe that too. I hate being cold.. I hate being hot. I just like to be comfortable and that’s not happening today. Time to drag out the blanket to cover my legs while I’m on the computer!

I went out to the store earlier and we did have a dusting of snow overnight. My car was covered in a light, fluffy powder that blew away as I went through the parking lot.

From the time we woke up on Monday morning until we arrived back home was a weather disaster. We had fog and rain almost the entire time. The fog and rain had let up after we were in Louisiana but returned almost all the way through Alabama. We stopped for the night just after we got in to Georgia because the fog was so thick we could hardly see the end of the hood of the car.

We woke up Tuesday morning to the fog still hanging around although it wasn’t as bad as the night before. Daylight helped quite a bit. Then the rain started and slowed us down somewhat.

We did a lot of stopping for food, fuel and potty breaks. We also needed to get drinks and ice. While we were in the convenience stores we would look around at all the stuff they sell. We saw GPS devices, radios, custom rubber stamps, jewelry, and all kinds of touristy stuff.

We stopped again on Wednesday night at about 5PM because of the heavy fog and rain right below Richmond, VA. We only had about 6 more hours to drive but didn’t want to be killed on the road trying to get home. We woke up the next morning and the fog was still around along with some rain. As we continued north we saw ice on the trees and cars. There was also snow on the ground but the roads were just wet. You can read more about the return trip and weather on my other blog South Jersey News.

My son, Kris, came up for a visit. He left South Carolina on Friday, before we knew we were in for a boat load of snow, and got here Saturday morning. He left today and got as far as just below Richmond, VA and got a nail in his tire. His car is a Corvette. He has no spare so he made it to a gas station and got a can of Fix-A-Flat and it will work holding air until he can get home.

There is one problem now.. he’s stranded there along with about 20 other people who can’t get up the incline from the station to the road. So he’s stuck there, sleeping in his car, for the night. I just hope he’ll be ok. I don’t want him to freeze and I don’t want him to die of carbon monoxide poisoning either.

I don’t think I’m going to be able to sleep much tonight.

Poor hubby is out plowing snow. He tried to get some sleep before he had to leave but his cell wouldn’t stop ringing. The wind is howling and the snow is coming down. There must be at least 3 inches on the ground now. We are supposed to get between 9 and 12 inches before it’s all said and done.

Kris made it home early this morning. He managed to get back on the road and after just a few miles he ran out of the snow and into rain.

It’s still snowing here. The schools are closed. It’s windy and the snow is blowing and drifting. Hubby is still out plowing. He’s been out all night.

I got outside just before 8am and took some pictures and a video. There is over 6 inches on the ground.. probably closer to 8 inches. I didn’t take a ruler to measure, but you can see it in the video. The parking lot hasn’t been plowed yet and the walkways haven’t been shoveled yet either.

I won’t be going out anywhere today. I’ll just stay inside and watch the pretty whiteness from the warmth of my living room while watching all the weather reports from my TV on my tv stand! Enjoy the video.

I went out and cleaned off about 11 inches of snow off of my car. It took me about 45 minutes to do that. By the time I got done my hands were wet and frozen and I was wearing gloves. Luckily I backed into my parking space on Sunday and didn’t have any trouble getting out. Hubby had cleared the snow from in front of the car and by the drivers side too. By the time I was done clearing off the car the snow, at the back of the car, came up to my knees!

When I left for WaWa someone was in the parking lot plowing out the empty spaces and when I got back my space was nice and cleared off. It’s now just 16 degrees outside and a bit windy still. I wore a hooded sweatshirt under my jacket and used the hood to keep my head warm.

click for bigger

I got home and decided to do a bit of window shopping online and found something that I really need on sale at Buy.com. It’s a little light that I can attach to my desk. I don’t have a lamp or a lot of light at my desk. It’s darker now that I have my new desk & hutch top. I can attach it under the shelf that’s above my monitor and will give me light at night. It was only $7.99 for 2 lights. Fantastic deal if you ask me!

This light uses LEDs and detaches so it can be used as a flashlight. This will be very handy. I ordered it and I get free shipping and I saved $22.00. There are 2 of these lights in the package. I’m sure I’ll find a use for the 2nd one.

I just love these weekly deals that Buy.com offers. This is my 5th purchase from them and so far I haven’t had and problems with anything I’ve ordered from them.

Andi’s boyfriend is going to come over and clear off my car and dig it out. They need to use the car to go to Pennsylvania today. I would do it but my boots are in storage and all I have to wear are a light pair of sneakers!

Hubby is out plowing and has been since early yesterday morning. He did get home about 3:30 am this morning and got a couple hours sleep but he was back at it about 6:30 this morning.

I needed to go there today but decided to stay away. I’m not going into that store and fight all those people for 1 thing. JoJo is getting low on her food but I think there just might be enough to last through the weekend. If not I do have a can or two of canned food I can give her. I’m glad I got food on Tuesday!

Hubby is out plowing again. He came home about 8:30 or so last night and went out again about 8 am. It’s now 1:30pm and he’s still out there.

I went out and cleaned off my car but that was as far as I could get. I can’t get to the drivers side of the car because of all of the snow and I don’t have a shovel. Hubby still has to finish plowing the driveway right behind my car so I can get it out. I’m glad I have enough stuff to last another day or two.

Enjoy the day after pictures below. The 1st 3 are the neighbors from yesterday… the 2 kids and parents. They built a snow fort out of snow and in the last one they built a snow slide. Now that looked like fun!

The ones below are from today when I was out cleaning off my car. A few show the camper covered in ice and the one showing the sky and trees. If you look closely at the trees you can see the snow blowing. I thought that was a neat shot!
